   He was the Sultan of Djokja in 1883.

* His place in the Barks/Rosa stories universe :
    Mangkunagara V, Sultan of Djodjka,  appears in "The Cowboy Captain of the Cutty Sark", in 1883, in Java, where he wants to buy the longhorns Scrooge bred in Montana and brought to Java sailing on the Cutty Sark, so that he'll beat the Sultan of Solo in the Kerapan Sapi, the annual bull race on the island of Madura. But the Sultan of Solo steals Scrooge's longhorns, and Scrooge brings them back, so he multiplies by 10 the price. It is said that thanks to Scrooge's bulls, he won the Kerapan Sapi many years at a stretch. The two sultans of Java seem to be speechless, so they use a sign language, and are translated by "emitters-of-verbal-speech". Their names and faces are based on authentic data that exist only in traveling stories of the time, which Don Rosa found looking through the archives of a local university.
