* His biography :
     Samuel Purchas was born in England in 1577.
   He was fascinated with exploration, especially in Asia and, like Richard Hakluyt, whose papers he inherited, hes collected, edited, and published the diaries and reports of travelers. He also a  map of China he obtained by  a Captain Saris at Bantam
   In 1625, Hakluytus Posthumus also known as or Purchas His Pilgrimes were published. Here is an extract :

   "In Xamdu did Cublai Can build a stately Palace, encompassing sixteene miles of plaine ground with a wall,
   wherein are fertile Meddowes, pleasant Springs, delightfull Streames, and all sorts of beasts of chase and game,
   and in the middest thereof a sumptuous house of pleasure."

This book will later inspire Samuel Taylor Coleridge for his poem Kubla Khan (click the link to see the poem), from 1798.
   Samuel Purchas died in 1626.
